While hair loss is mostly due to aging, practicing good everyday habits can slow hair loss. Here are several tips to maintaining that healthy hair!
Eat a diet rich in protein
Did you know that hair follicles are mainly made of protein called keratin? In 2017, a study has found that most people who experience hair loss has several nutritional deficiencies including amino acids which serve as the building blocks of protein. As such, eating a diet rich in protein may help prevent any more hair loss.
Be gentle with styling your hair
Skip the ponytails and tight braids when styling your hair. These may pull on a hair’s root and lead to more hair loss. Opt for letting your hair down or avoid tying your hair too tightly when wearing braids or ponytails.
When it comes to drying your hair, avoid curling and straightening irons which can break or damage your hair shaft. Don’t irritate your hair scalp and just let your hair air dry.
Manage and reduce your stress levels

Have a scalp massage
According to research, scalp massage can help increase increase your hair thickness by stretching the hair follicles. And the benefits of scalp massage doesn’t stop there. It is also found to help dilate blood vessels which encourage hair growth.
Give yourself at least 5 minutes of daily scalp massage to promote hair circulation and restore nutrients faster. You can easily perform it in the shower after applying shampoo and conditioner. Move your hands in a slowly in a circular movement around the whole head.
Be aware of chemical processing
Just like how heat can be harmful to hair, so are several chemical processing treatments currently offered in salons. Bleaching, lightening or chemically straightening your hair can damage your hair shaft thus causing hair loss and weakening of the hair.
With this said, always stick to your natural color and style to avoid further hair loss and thinning of hair.
Avoid brushing wet hair
Brushing your hair while it’s wet is one of the easiest ways for hair loss. When your hair is wet, it is at its weakest state. As such, it’s best to let it air dry and brush it once it’s fully dry. However, if you must comb wet hair, use a very wide-toothed comb.
To undo tangles, it’s best to use your hand. And avoid brushing your hair too frequently!
